6. Bao

Bao

Initial release: 15 June 2018 (USA)

IMDb - 7.5/10

"Bao" may be a thoroughly strange short film....and describing its plot isn't exactly easy. It is also very touching and features a strong symbolic aspect thereto ...one that adults would probably appreciate far more than the youngsters who see it.

The story is about in Canada with Chinese-Canadians. The housewife is making yet one more batch of pork buns when suddenly one among them involves life!! It's sort of a tiny boy and she or he loves it and showers affection on the boy...and ultimately you learn that it's all a metaphor for change, acceptance, and love.

The animation, not surprisingly, is top-notch. It's from Pixar...and we've come to expect this type of excellence from the corporate. The story is robust and the characters wonderful and unique. Well worth seeing....and available as an add on the DVD for "Incredibles 2"...the film with which it had been shown in theaters.
